Gordes, superb perched village, is located halfway between Cavaillon and Apt. By its inheritance, Gordes is part of the most beautiful villages of France grace in particular to two abbeys, several water mills or wind and several hundreds of dry stone huts also called bories. The castle whose frontage is of Renaissance style is the most outstanding monument of Gordes. Built in the center of the village, this imposing building, rebuilt in 1525, historic building is classified and shelters a museum of painting as well as the tourist office. |
Further towards the view-point, the church Saint-Firmin is held built on the bases of an old church of the 13th century. There exists, to 3 km west of Gordes, an old grouping of dry stone huts called Bories. One reaches it by a way bordered of oaks and stone walls. Called formerly huts, these constructions were called bories only since second half of the 20th century. |
